The ISL 2020 Coaches : Man who DIRECTS the Orchestra

While we spend a lot of time on evolution and also the science behind the tactics of each team plays, undoubtedly the person who articulates the moves, the players and even manoeuvres them are Coaches. It is often said that the Coach is as good as the team performs. So let's look into the coaches and try to understand what they did great & what might be tactically good but has fallen flat and cost the teams.

As in the fag end of the year, the point table stands like :

So let us start with the team which top the table currently, which is ATKMB. They have their head coach as Antonio Habas Lopez. The 63-year-old coach prefers a 3-5-2 approach and has been more successful in it.

And his stats are with him like his players this time. Having an awesome striking force last year, this year ATK has boomed-up their defensive line-up as well and it is being seen on the record also. Habas is often been criticized as a defensive-minded coach, his team will keep on absorbing the pressure and will pick-up goals on sudden counter-attacks. Nothing succeeds like success and if they are successful in it they should keep on doing the same. But the team looked completely different while facing FC Jamshedpur or FC Chennai. Both the games we have witnessed a more comprehensive approach to the game and in the game of Goa, it was an open game for anybody to take it. And the players and the coaches have put too much extra effort to take away the game which made it wonderful.

Key Positive: Manvir Singh, who has been wonderful this year can safely be said as one of the unseen players who has kept the scoreboard as well as the Opposition goalkeeper and defenders on their twos.

Tactical Plus: Last year David Williams and Roy Krishna was an awesome player. But this year Williams was not at his best it seems and how Habas has held him back and started giving him game time for slowly in increasing rate was awesome. Now it seems that Williams has got his Midas touch back again.

MFC: Sergio Lobera, the 43-year-old is in ISL circuit for almost 3 years now. Sergio got a very impressive record of winning 33 of 60 games, with a draw of 11, while he was in charge of Goa & that speaks more than enough.

His game got the Spanish flavour, keep the ball possession, press higher and higher and go for the goal.

While coming from Goa he roped in a lot of players also with him & the City Group showed their intent of what's in the store at that point of time only. They got Ahmed Jahouh, Hugo Boumous, Mourtada Fall & Mandar Rao Desai. On top of that, they got Ogbeche & Le Fondre as their striking options which is one of the most impressive signings together.

While MFC started the season with a loss, since then it seems they have found their true colours and won 5 out of 7 games with a sole draw with the Miners JFC.

With Lobera at the helm and the players, he got MFC is sure to be the title contender for this year to be very least.

FC GOA: Juan Fernando, despite just being 39 he has bagged 3 titles in his managerial career & that speaks volume for the Man himself. Fernando prefers 4-2-3-1 formation and injects a die-hard attitude in his players.

His Spanish roots are evidently seen in the style of his play with mid-field dominance of his players. While GFC got the incredible record to register to score the highest number of Goals, proves his mantle of attacking games.

Key Positive: While he has got a broken team in his hand he has got exact players who rise on the occasion and changes the game. Bringing in Ortiz & Angulo to the team has seriously sharpened the team game & when both are in tandem FC Goa is a team to be reckoned with.

Tactical Plus: Both the changes Juan has done in the JFC match & HFChas changed the game. And when a team win 3 games from being behind then you got to give the coach some credit for his match reading and adjusting of suitable players.

JAMSHEDPUR FC: Owen Coyle

The Scotish Coach arrived in the ISL arena last year and showed his mantle with Cehnnaian FC with their dream run to the final. The coach who has got a credit of defeating MANU cannot be asked for any more credentials.

Owen favours the 4-2-3-1 formation and when he has got a player like Valskis he can easily afford the formation.

JFC started this year with a loss against Cehnnaian FC , but then turned the table & won against ATKMb, BFC & NEUFC. When they lost against FC GOA, it can be surely called upon the error of the Referee. When the ball crossed the line for almost 2 yards and the referee could not see it you cannot do anything on that. It seems JFC always flares up when the face tough opponents.

Key Positive: Look at the scorers of JFC and you would be surprised that the second-highest scorer is a defender. Eze. And it seems that Owen has marshalled his defence not only to defend but also to score goals and that also from Set-Pieces. It takes long planning and practises to do that match after match, and JFC is doing that consistently. So, Kudos to Owen,

Tactical plus: This JFC looks like a perfect team while on the attack and on defence. We have often seen 7 men in attack and 7 men defending. And when a team does that it has to be in clear and concise planning, and Owen Coyle seems to have made his team precisely to do that.

No wonder The Miners are looking forward to being a force to reckon with.
