At the End of 1st Leg of ISL::: Key Pointers

As you all know that today 11th Jan 2021, the first leg of ISL 2020 is finished and let us have a look at the key pointers to take on. We will try to analyse the Teams firstly according to the Table standings & then, in general, the key points which are for all the teams.

We have analysed for some teams and we love your comments on that, also read in for more details of the other teams which we could not cover-up earlier.

Without any further ado, let's have a look at the points table now.

While we had a write-up earlier on the coaches we informed how Carles Cuadrat has been involved in showing the success to Bangaluru FC at his earlier engagement times. But we also pointed out two main things which BFC have been doing consistently, bringing up new Indian talents, and providing new foreign players who can single-handedly with his magical touch can change the game, both of which are missing this time. And sadly, Carles is now separated from the team. He has been replaced by Naushad Musa, who has been with BFC for numerous years, knows the players, and have been with them through thick & thin.

Brand of Football: As Naushad has been guided his team for only 1 match we cannot tell much about him, the only game they played they lost to SC East Bengal. Though the team fought back in the 2nd half brilliantly but it was not enough for the BFC to drew level or win the game. But we all know Bengaluru have the right ingredient of players and if properly synced together they will be a worthy opponent for anybody any day. And we look forward to seeing that brand of the game from BFC in the 2nd leg for if nothing but for the pride and the love of Football itself.

With the youngest manager at the helm, Gerad Nus, NEUFC started their opening match by beating Mumbai City FC the table topper and what a start that was. But since then they won only another 1, draw 5 and lost 3 games out of which 2 were the last 2 games.

Brand of Football: Other than HFC, NEUFC seemed to be the only team to be looked upon for their Indian brigade. and they had the right mixture of their foreign strikers Appiah, Sylla, Machado and able foreign defenders Benjamin Lambot. They seemed to be playing quite attacking flavoured football in their first few games...but gradually they seemed to be trying to change the same according to the opposition. And you cannot play a defensive game with attacking-minded players who are eager to attack and snatch the ball & convert to the goal. And that's what seems to be the problem with this team. The team which was sitting at the top 4/5 for most of the time of this leg suddenly seemed to be too aware of their opponent and to us more than the actual game they lost the psychological game much before the start of the game. And this was evident from the match they played against ATKMB. And once you scatter a team which was build up nicely you might have to work harder than ever to bring the team into the winning streak and let us see can Gerad Nus be able to turn the tides or just fades away with the performance.

And believe us, we never thought that Chennaiyin FC will be this below at the table under the guidance of Csaba Laszlo. They stared on a winning note with JFC, lost but fought valiantly against MCFC, but at last, now they are 8th position with 2 win, 5 draw and 3 losses.

Brand of Football: Chennai had their most prolific run to almost winning the championship last year, and this year they have lost two important things from that the scorer and the Coach. We are not sure how that can rattle the team too much. But that has happened. ANd to add salt on that the main strikers of the team are not scoring. Rahim Ali and Anirudh Thapa being the highest striker of a team you can understand why they are not winning games while talking back no credit from both the lads. And to top of that this is the First ISL of Rahim Ali, he sure deserves a pat on the back for sure. And if we say clearly that if you want to see how a team can create chances after chances and put all those efforts into vain by not scoring you should look into any game of Chennaiyin FC. And surely unless Sylvestor, Memo, Changte, Esmael starts putting the ball into the opponents net we cannot expect something more from this team. Also. when you miss the main playmaker, Crivellaro due to injury your worry continues. But if they can find a proper substitute and they start scoring goals then we can surely see a dream run from Chennaiyin FC again.

When the legendary footballer Robbie Fowler took charge of SC East Bengal, the first question many asked was can they find foreign players and Indian players to form a team & start playing? It was 3 weeks when they had their first game & that also against last years champion ATK, now ATKMB. which they lost. Not only that they lost the first 3 games, could not even score a single goal in the first 4 games. And you can understand the pressure the coaching team & the players were in. But since then they have turned a little.

Brand of Football: Robbie seems to be having a no-nonsense approach towards football and does not seem to follow the old traditional football with his team. His team is trying to build-up the game through short passes, trying to improve the passing accuracy & then go forward to score. We saw Jacques Maghoma had a 100% successful passing record in opponent half, and being a winger it is a hell of a difficult job. Though East Bengal has conceded the 3rd highest number of goals, you will be surprised to know that they have the highest number of saves in this ISL. So one can easily understand that the defensive organization was not working for them which they seemed to be rectified as have not let BFC to score any goal, and that clearly shows character. They have changed a lot of players to find the correct players and now seemed to find the rhythm of the team slowly. And one of the players they have got in is Bright, and if we don't say anything about him it will be an injustice to football. Clearly, this player himself can dictate terms of football at any time. And might be with is touch only SC East Bengal have "Brigt"er days ahead.

And when you have India's number one league Champion coach Kibu with one of the most expensive Football teams we don't understand why Kerala Blaster FC is at this bottom of the table.

Brand of Football: Kibu loves to play Spanish Gharana football as we see. Strengthen the mid-field, play too many passes and then score the goal. And that kind of game shows also as a beautiful style of game, But we don't know why though Kibu have been able to make the team do that still now. When the strikers and the Central defenders are not working properly a team cannot function well & that is what is happening with Kerala Blasters. It is up to the coach how to revamp the confidence boosted up or make them working but that is not happening with Kibu’s team. And unless that is happening you cannot see some good changes. We hope that Kibu understands the root cause of the problem and bring back his team to the wining days. but we have seen KBFC winning 1 and then consecutively losing 2 games, and we hope they won't be going back to the same form as they have won again in their last match.

When Stuart Baxter started the preparation and with the forward line players like Marcelinho, Diago Mauricio and manual Onwu, we though Odisha FC is going to show us plenty of goals to the very least. But what we have seen are only 10 goals out of which 4 came in a single game where they won against KBFC.

Brand of Football: The less we say about it the better. Though the start has not been that good the last 2 games they have beaten KBFC and have drawn against Chennaiyin FC which we can see as an improvement but nothing else. But we think that Marcelinho is not fully fit and is regaining fitness slowly. We have seen him coming on the pitches for a span of 10-15 minutes. And when he comes to full fitness along with Mauricio and Onwu we can clearly see Odisha FC doing a lot better, and we sincerely hope that those days are soon.

But while looking at the end of it, whatever you do you cannot look at the obvious degradation of the standard of referring. Over this ISL the refereeing has been scooped to a new low undoubtedly. There have been outbursts from Owen Coyle, Fernando and Robbie Fowler. A Goal was not given which clearly crossed the goal line (JFC against FC Goa and Valskis was the scorer). A goal was denied for the foul on Goalkeeper (SC EastBengal against FC Goa, where the foul was committed by their own player). Corners have been given wrongfully where goals have been scored (Against Jamshedpur FC, Hyderabad FC) and numerous cards have been shown without any reason. It was so bad that IFA had to withdraw one Red Card decision and suspend 2 of the referees from the panel of referees available. But where does it stop? Unless proper steps are taken then noting can be done in this issue. To understand what better steps can be taken, you can have a look...

But at least with technological help can be taken by the hapless referees when they are found wanting, and which happens in most of the cases. Nobody knows why some particular teams are always been favoured ( as it is evident from the cards shown against that team, and not when that team’s players commit Red Card offence even a Yellow card is not being shown). We can give numerous examples of this, but if you are curious, just watch the ATKMB vs MCFC match. Subhashish, Tiri, Sandesh all the three players committed foul off the ball. And believe us when we say it, that these kinds of play(or nonsense?) if you show the to the players involve later they would also be ashamed of what they did. These are not only is not professionally acceptable but also not humane things to do in the name of the beautiful game known as football. And if a referee can be suspended later-on after viewing the errors they committed why these players will be allowed to go free FSDL & IFA should think off. Even the AFC & FIFA seems o keep a watch on the proceedings of Indian Football, so when a player plays beautifully to enhance the name of ISL, this kind of behaviour not only pushes back the name but also brings a black name on the tournament itself.
